Compere, Master of Ceremonies and After Dinner Speaking services

Malcolm Godfrey has been a master of ceremonies on a regular basis for over ten years. He learned his skills in the Royal Navy before becoming an event consultant, a career which led to him incorporating the role of master of ceremonies.

The master of ceremonies' role differs from that of the toastmaster used at some prestigious events. The toastmaster has to wear the strict uniform of red coat and white bow tie, whereas the master of ceremonies has looser restrictions, unless requested otherwise by the event organisers.

Malcolm dresses up smartly in a suit, naturally, and he likes to wear colourful bow ties and waistcoats, giving him a unique and distinctive appearance when he is speaking.

Events and Occasions

Malcolm covers a variety of different events in his role as master of ceremonies, ranging from charity and royal events to weddings, Naval style events, dinners and motivational days.

Greenwich Sports Awards, 1999-2002

Malcolm was an active member of the team that produced the Greenwich Sports Awards on behalf of Greenwich Council throughout the time it was presented in the Painted Hall of the Old Royal Naval College at Greenwich.

Malcolm's particular role was as compere of the awards.

Nelson and Hardy Dinner, September 2003

In September 2003 Time For Greenwich sponsored, managed and presented a unique dinner in Devonport House at Greenwich, the site of the mausoleum and final resting place of Thomas Masterman Hardy, Nelson's Flag Captain at Trafalgar.

Much is made of Nelson's achievements whereas Hardy is usually only remembered for the 'kiss me' moment as Nelson lay dying.

Guests at the dinner enjoyed a Traditional Dinner, Twighlight Tours of the Mausoleum and after dinner entertainment in the form of a light hearted and informative oration from Malcolm Godfrey.

What the audience thought!

Here are just a few examples of extracts from the correspondence following previous events where Malcolm Godfrey has appeared as a Master of Ceremonies, Compere or Speaker:

'May I also applaud your public speaking and convey my appreciation for your help'

'The way you guided us through the evening as Master of Ceremonies was delightful'

'Malcolm Godfrey delighted the floor with his humorous recollections of his time in HMS Ganges and the Royal Navy'

'Thank you for being our MC, you were exceptional and added the final touch to the night'

'The anecdotes you delivered and the high standard of informative detail provided us all with an illuminating insight into maritime history. Your contribution made this a memorable and eventful day'

'Malcolm is a good communicator and orator with a relaxed and informative style'
