Picture ©Time For Greenwich We offered a unique opportunity to be a part of history, and partake in what was probably the biggest nationwide celebration since the Millennium. The inspiration for this event was the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, Admiral Lord Nelson's greatest victory. In the very dockyard where Nelson joined his first ship as a midshipman and his famous flagship HMS Victory was built, our guests enjoyed a drinks reception in the Mast House hosted by guides who informed guests about the history of Chatham Historic Dockyard. An informal buffet meal was provided, with unlimited complimentary wine. Our guests then enjoyed prime reserved seating for the 'Battle of Trafalgar Performance'. During the interval hot and cold soft drinks were served with a choice of brandy or liqueur. The 'Battle of Trafalgar Performance' marked the victory of the Royal Navy at the great battle off Cape Trafalgar in 1805, recognised the role played by Admiral Lord Nelson and remembered his ultimate sacrifice. The performance conveyed a real sense of the Naval Custom alongside superb music with a 'Last Night of the Proms' atmosphere. The grand 'finale' took place at 10.15pm with a spectacular fireworks display over the river Medway next to the Dockyard.
